NC Contractor Academy Expands Continuing Education & Exam Prep Across North Carolina

NCLBGC-approved instructor Malcolm Boney brings contractor-built continuing education and hands-on exam prep to Jacksonville, Wilmington, Raleigh, and Charlotte.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — July 4, 2026 — A-1 North Carolina Contractor Academy, a North Carolina–based training academy for construction professionals, today announced a significantly expanded lineup of continuing education (CE) courses and in-person exam preparation offered across the state and led by NCLBGC-approved instructor Malcolm Boney.

The expansion pairs a fresh slate of continuing education built specifically for working North Carolina contractors with the Academy’s full exam-prep program — and brings both to live, in-person classrooms in Jacksonville, Wilmington, Raleigh, and Charlotte.

Unlike cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all study products, A-1 North Carolina Contractor Academy designs its curriculum around how contractors actually work and what North Carolina’s exams actually test. The Academy’s continuing education courses are written to keep licensed contractors current and sharp — not simply to check a box — while its exam prep is built to get first-time candidates genuinely ready for the state’s open-book licensing exams.

A complete path for North Carolina contractors

The Academy’s programs now include:

  • Continuing education for licensed North Carolina general contractors, taught by an NCLBGC-approved instructor and designed to deliver real, usable knowledge — not filler.
  • NASCLA exam prep for contractors pursuing the NASCLA Accredited Commercial General Building exam accepted in North Carolina and many other states.
  • NC Building and NC Residential contractor exam prep for candidates seeking their North Carolina license.
  • Live, in-person classes scheduled across the state throughout 2026.

Invested in the contractor — not just the exam

What sets the Academy apart, according to founder and lead instructor Malcolm Boney, is a genuine investment in each contractor’s long-term success — well beyond exam day.

“We’re not here to hand someone a stack of notes and wish them luck,” said Malcolm Boney, NCLBGC-approved instructor and founder of A-1 North Carolina Contractor Academy. “We’re here to take a contractor from zero all the way to running a serious, profitable business. Passing the exam is the starting line. Our job is to give people the knowledge, the guidance, and the confidence to become far more than they thought they could — to build the kind of company they’ve always pictured.”

That philosophy runs through every course: help contractors get licensed, keep them compliant year after year, and guide them toward building lasting, profitable businesses.

In-person events across North Carolina

The Academy’s live, in-person classes are now scheduled in Jacksonville, Wilmington, Raleigh, and Charlotte, with additional dates being added throughout the year. Each class is taught in person by a working professional, capped for a focused classroom experience, and centered on exactly what North Carolina contractors need to pass and practice with confidence.
