North Carolina Contractor Licensing Board During COVID-19 pandemic

The North Carolina Licensing Board is now allowing virtual education learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You may register at NCcontractorAcademy.com/register

We also offer in-person classes in Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Fayetteville & Wilmington.

Virtual Education Classes

✔ NCCA conduct classes via “Zoom” or “Team Meetings”.

✔ We will send you a link to join the meeting 1-2 days before the class starts.

✔ At the time of the class, just click on the link with your camera and microphone turned on. If you have any issues you may contact us for help.

✔ A class attendant will sign you in and check your ID.

General Contractor NC CEU Credits Online or In Person

Continuing Education for North Carolina General Contractors

North Carolina licensed general contractors are required to complete continuing education (CE) beginning with 2021 license renewals.

Courses

✔ 8 hours of CE must be completed in order to renew a license by at least one qualifier for licensees in the license classifications of Building, Residential and Unclassified. For the Unclassified license, it shall be the qualifier who has passed the Building examination.

✔ The 8-hour course requirement includes a mandatory 2-hour course produced by the Board with information about changes in the laws and rules and other content applicable to general contracting.

✔ The remaining 6 hours will be elective courses produced by outside providers, submitted to and approved by the Board.

Timing

The CE year begins January 1 and ends on November 30 annually.

Classes will not be offered during the month of December.

(a) Board-approved continuing education providers may offer synchronous distance-learning instruction for Board-approved continuing education elective courses. “Synchronous distance learning instruction” means the Board-approved instructor and students are separated only by distance and not time, allowing for real-time monitoring of student attendance and participation.

(b) Board-approved continuing education providers may offer synchronous distance-learning instruction for the Board-approved 2-hour Mandatory Course taught by an instructor authorized by the Board to teach the 2-hour Mandatory Course.

(c) All other provisions pursuant to N.C.G.S. 87-10.2 and 21 NCAC 12B, for continuing education shall remain in effect.

(d) This shall be in effect until November 30, 2020. *Please note, the Board has extended the use of SDL virtual learning through June 2021.

The following are the minimum requirements/guidelines for the implementation of

synchronous learning:

✔ A computer or other device with camera and microphone capabilities

(student connection via cell phone is not allowed)

✔ Broadband internet access with a strong internet connection capable of maintaining connectivity.

✔ Software requirements (i.e. operating system, browser, etc)

Construction Law 101

4-Hour credit

Knowing the law gives you an upper hand on any project.  Many customers drain the profits of a small contractor due to their limited knowledge of construction law. In this course, you will learn how to establish clear and concise boundaries with your customers to increase job profitability. This course is not a substitute for a licensed attorney.

This course will allow you access to examples of common construction related court cases. You will have an opportunity to explore case studies, so you are not blind-sided by legal issues when they arise…

Construction Law 102

2- Hour Credit

Have you ever had a contractual dispute with your subcontractor? In this course, you will have an increased knowledge of construction Law. The focus of this course is construction Law as it relates to subcontractors. Whether you are a new contractor or experienced project manager, you may be faced with serious legal issues during your career. Knowing the law gives you an upper hand on any project. Many subcontractors drain the profits of a contractor due to their limited knowledge of construction law. In this course, you will learn how to establish clear and concise boundaries with your subcontractor to increase job profitability. This course will also allow you access to examples of common court cases involving contractors and subcontractors. This course is not a substitute for a licensed attorney.

2- Hour Credit

This mandatory 2-hour course is a basic requirement for all licensed general contractors.
